A kind a gentle boy

Well, we got quite the surprise today when my husband went through Little Man’s Thursday Folder. Tucked in with all the classwork Little Man did this week was a school certificate signed by his principal and kindergarten teacher that named him Student of the Month. He was recognized for his kindness. Can you believe that? [...]

We’re getting our first snow

Categories: Up North Happenings — Kim on Oct 28, 2008 @ 11:33 pm Comments (2)

It’s been blustery all day today. If the wind wasn’t gusting, it was raining and sometimes the rain was frozen enough that it looked a little like snow blowing around.
Just a little bit ago when I let Sarah, our Great Dane puppy in from her final bathroom break of the night, I saw that [...]

Goodnight Mom - a bedtime story

Categories: Family — Kim on Oct 27, 2008 @ 10:31 pm Comments (0)

I saw this at the end of my Parenting Magazine. It’s a cute poem based upon Margaret Wise Brown’s classic Goodnight Moon and it’s a hoot. Enjoy!
In the messy green family room
There was a telemarketer ringing on the telephone
And a crying toddler bacause his brother
just popped his red balloon
And a picture of –
The cow jumping [...]

A Sunday Drive

Categories: A Sunday Drive, Family, Up North Happenings — Kim on Oct 26, 2008 @ 11:52 pm Comments (2)

We kind of cheated and took our Sunday drive yesterday. My husband was itching to take a road trip with the kids so we loaded them up in the car and headed over to Traverse City for the day. Lunch at North Peak Brewing Company was delicious. Steve ordered a beer sampler and the dark [...]

These boots were made for walking

Categories: Family — Kim on Oct 23, 2008 @ 8:52 am Comments (2)

That’s what I could have sung for my daughter yesterday. She had a great physical therapy session yesterday. She’s consistently walking so well with her walker that we don’t really need to spot her much anymore, and when she was done walking in PT, I had her walk from the lobby out to the car. [...]

For moms who use cloth diapers because they think they’re more environmentally friendly

Categories: News, Parenting — Kim on Oct 20, 2008 @ 8:02 pm Comments (1)

You will want to rethink that decision after reading this report published at the London Sunday Times. It seems cloth diapers, refered to as reusable diapers in this report, have a larger carbon footprint than disposable because the energy required to launder them. This information was discovered through a study done by Britain’s Department for [...]

A Sunday Drive

As I said earlier today we went on a Sunday train ride on the Michigan AuSable Valley Railroad. We were very lucky to have gotten a chance to ride the railroad since yesterday was the last day that it was open.  It’s a great family activity that takes you on an 18 minute ride through [...]

A Sunday Drive - a work in progress

Categories: A Sunday Drive, Family, Up North Happenings — Kim on Oct 13, 2008 @ 9:04 am Comments (1)

I’m working on my Sunday Drive post and it’s a good one. Yesterday we took a train ride on the Michigan AuSable Valley Railroad, which is just a few minutes from our home. It’s a great ride for families because it’s not only so much fun for kids and adults but the views are spectacular. [...]

I wrote a couple of months ago that we were planning on building a treehouse for our kids. Well, we got started about a week and a half ago and now it’s virtually done. I said that we were hoping to build aa treehouse like this one:

But we decided to build a treehouse like [...]

A Sunday Drive

Categories: A Sunday Drive — Kim on Oct 05, 2008 @ 10:20 pm Comments (1)

Today was overcast, but I really wanted to get out for a drive because the trees are just about to reach the peak of their color change. I didn’t have to drive far to get some beautiful views. This one is about two miles down the road from me.

Isn’t that beautiful! Look at those [...]
