The newest rite of passage: back to school shopping

Little Man will be entering kindergarten in early September. On the one hand I’m so excited for him. On the other, I’m sad because, since kindergarten is all day, every day, I feel as if he will be going on with a part of his life without me. It makes me think about how fast the past five and a half years have sped by.

The day Little Man was born and I held him in my arms, I marveled at his sweet face, his perfect nose, his tiny fingers, and his precious feet. As I thanked God for giving me such a beautiful, healthy baby boy, all I did was blink, and the next thing I knew 5 years had passed.  Over these past five years, I’ve been through the same rites of passage other parents go through: middle of the night feedings, first steps, first words, potty training, and many others.

Now, it’s time for the next rite of passage: the back to school clothes shopping. I’m looking forward to it because, well, I just love shopping, and I found something to make the whole process even simpler and more economical. And it involves one of my favorite online companies: PayPal.

If you buy or sell anything on eBay, you know about PayPal. I love it and use it whenever I can. Now, PayPal is making back to school shopping a breeze. PayPal has created a website for moms who want a one stop shop this back-to-school season. Starting today, you can visit PayPal’s Back to School , a site created just for moms (and dad’s too!), where you’ll find discounts and cash back offerings on clothes, supplies and electronics from a variety of companies including these: OfficeMax, American Eagle, Footlocker, Guess, Shoebuy.com.

This is such a great idea. PayPal is a fantastic site and joining forces with companies parents use to get their kids ready for school makes it an even better resource. I know I’ll be heading over there today to take a look at all the deals, and I’m sure I’ll find many.

Okay honey, just you wait – you’ll blink and you’ll be sending your baby to high school – like me! Where did the 14 years go? I feel like in many ways it’s been a lifetime and then in so many other ways – WHAM-O we’re here.

But for you it’s an exciting time – and everyone will adjust and 6 months from now you won’t remember what life was like when you had all three home – or you will remember, but you’ll have a new appreciation.

And I LOVE back to school shopping. This year DH has been doing all the supply shopping. He’s a freak for sales like that. But we’re about done with that and since my two little ones go to Catholic school, it’s one stop shopping to the uniform store. I love that.

#1 is off to public school – which we’ve never done before – so the whole no-uniform thing will be kinda weird for us. But I’m sure since Maddy loves to shop, we’ll be just fine! :)

I didn’t know paypal did all that – so cool. I might just have to mosey on over and check things out – you know, just to poke around a bit. :)

  2. My oldest enters Junior High this year so I am on my own new rite of passage. I’ve already done much of the back to school shopping (years of doing this has taught me to go early or Target runs out of items) but I’ll need to go check out this site! You always forget something . Thanks for the heads up.

  3. Time goes by so fast… Part of me wants them to stay little forever, but part of me looks forward to each new adventure!

  4. Ok, now this makes me want to run in and wake up my sleeping baby girl just to give her an extra hug and kiss. (Although I would never in my right mind actually wake her because that would cut into my precious blog-reading time! :) ) It goes so fast…you are blessed!

  5. On the day each of my 3 children started Kinder I was the one balling! It is so hard to see them grow up sometimes isn’t it. This year I send my oldest off to High School and I imagine I’ll be the cry baby that day too!

  6. My twins started kindergarten this week. It really is so hard to believe 5 years have gone by already. Since they are the only two children we have, the house is so lonely during the day. On the positive side, they are having a lot of fun and really enjoy learning in kindergarten. I know it is good for them even if it is a little bittersweet for me.
